Dease River First Nation

Good Hope Lake is home to the Dease River First Nation and is located on Highway 37, in northern BC, approximately 120 kilometers south of Watson Lake, YT, and 115 kilometers north of Dease Lake, BC. Dease River First Nation has 186 Band Members, 38 of whom live on Reserve in Good Hope Lake.

Dease River First Nation operates a store and provides direction to the Dease River Development Corporation which develops contracts with local mining companies and provides jobs for community members.

The Dease River First Nation store also supplies diesel and gasoline to government and commercial operations, band members, and the general public.

Access to Good Hope Lake is either via the Alaska Highway through the junction to Highway 37, near Watson Lake, or north on Highway 37 from Dease Lake. The closest airports are Whitehorse (512 km) for regular scheduled flights and Watson Lake or Dease Lake for charter service.

Wildlife Management within Kaska Traditional Territory

You must have a BC Hunting License or be of Kaska Ancestry to hunt in Kaska Traditional Territory. Other First Nations can apply to hunt in Kaska Traditional Territory. Further information and reporting forms are located below.

Hunter Harvest Survey (2021)

All non-Kaska First Nation and licensed hunters are requested to complete a Notification of Hunt form before your hunt, for the stewardship of wildlife in the Kaska Traditional Territory.

You must also submit a Hunter Harvest Survey after your hunt – even if you were not successful.
This is part of our effort to improve wildlife management.
